# Import orders

> Bring existing Shopify orders into Filemonk, in bulk or one at a time.

Filemonk handles orders from the moment it starts processing them. Orders placed before that, or skipped by a setting, are not there until you import them. Importing matches a Shopify order to your Filemonk products and attaches the right files.

## Choose your route

| Route | Use it for |
|---|---|
| **Bulk import** | A known list of order numbers, or re-syncing several orders. This guide. |
| **Find order** | One order, when you also want to see why it was missed. See [Troubleshoot a single order](https://help.filemonk.io/troubleshoot-an-order/) |
| **Import orders** in Settings | Every pre-install order at once, when migrating. See [Process orders placed before you installed Filemonk](https://help.filemonk.io/process-orders-placed-before-install/) |

## Before you begin

- Link files to the relevant products first. Import matches orders to products that already have files; a product with nothing linked imports an order with nothing to deliver.
- Decide whether customers should be emailed. The choice is yours at import time and cannot be undone afterwards.

## Set it up

1. Click **Filemonk** in the left menu of your Shopify admin.
2. Click **Orders** in the app's menu, then click **Bulk import**.
3. In **Order numbers**, list the orders separated by commas, for example `1001, 1002, 1003`.
4. Decide about **Send notification emails to customers**. Leave it unchecked to import quietly; check it to email every customer their download links.
5. Click **Check orders**.
6. Review the results, which count how many are ready, already imported, or have errors.
7. Click **Import all orders**, or select individual orders and import those.

## Read the results

Each order comes back with a status: **Ready to import**, **Imported**, **Not found**, or **Error**. Click **Troubleshoot** on any problem order to see the detail.

Orders already in Filemonk show as imported, and offer **Re-sync** instead. Re-syncing refetches the order from Shopify and rebuilds its product and file links, which is the fix when an order shows no products.

## Check your setup

Open one of the imported orders and confirm it carries the right products and files. If you sent emails, check the email history on that order too.

## Troubleshooting

### Orders come back as Not found

The order numbers do not match Shopify. Use the order name as Shopify shows it, without the `#`, and check you are not using an internal ID.

### Imported orders have no files

The products had nothing linked at import time. Link the files, then re-sync those orders rather than importing again.

### Customers got emails I didn't intend to send

**Send notification emails to customers** was checked. Sent emails cannot be recalled, so leave it unchecked on any further import.

### I imported the same orders twice

Harmless. Orders already in Filemonk are recognised and offered for re-sync rather than duplicated.

### An order imports but shows the wrong products

Re-sync it, which rebuilds from what Shopify has now. If the product was deleted in Shopify there is nothing to rebuild, and you will need to attach files to the order directly.

## FAQ

### Do imported orders count towards my plan?

Yes, they count as orders. When migrating, importing years of history has a real cost, so import only as far back as customers realistically re-download.

### What is the difference between import and re-sync?

Import brings an order in for the first time. Re-sync refetches one Filemonk already has and rebuilds its links.

### Can I import orders for products I no longer sell?

Only if the product still exists in Shopify with files linked in Filemonk. Deleted products cannot be matched.

### How many can I do at once?

Bulk import takes a list you paste in. For a whole store's history, use the dedicated import in Settings instead, which handles up to 5,000 orders. See [Process orders placed before you installed Filemonk](https://help.filemonk.io/process-orders-placed-before-install/).
