Add tags to Filemonk orders
Filemonk can tag every order it processes in Shopify. Tags let you filter your Shopify order list to digital sales, and let Shopify's own notification templates behave differently for those orders.
Set it up
- Click Filemonk in the left menu of your Shopify admin.
- Click Settings in the app's menu, then open the Orders tab.
- Find Add tags and enter the Order tags you want applied.
- Save.
Orders Filemonk processes from now on carry those tags in Shopify.
What you can do with them
Filter your orders. Search your Shopify order list by tag to see only digital sales, which is useful for reporting and for spotting orders that need attention.
Change Shopify's emails. Shopify's own notification templates can check an order's tags, so your order confirmation can say something different for digital orders, for example telling customers to expect a separate download email.
Drive other apps. Most Shopify apps and automations can act on order tags, so tagging is the usual way to make them treat digital orders differently.
Check your setup
Place a test order and open it in Shopify. The tags should be on the order. See Create a test order.
Troubleshooting
Tags aren't appearing on orders
Confirm Filemonk processed the order at all. An order Filemonk skipped is never tagged, because tagging happens as part of processing. See Turn on order processing.
Old orders don't have the tags
Tagging applies from when you set it. Re-syncing an older order re-processes it, which is the practical way to tag a few. See Troubleshoot a single order.
My Shopify email template ignores the tag
Check the exact spelling and case in your Liquid condition against the tag on the order. Tag conditions are unforgiving about both.
Orders have tags I didn't add
Other apps tag orders too. Use a distinctive tag such as filemonk-digital so yours are unambiguous.
FAQ
Can I use more than one tag?
Yes. Enter them as a list and all are applied.
Do tags affect what customers see?
Not directly. Customers see tags only if your own Shopify templates mention them.
Can I tag different products differently?
No. The tags are store-wide for orders Filemonk processes.
Will removing a tag in Shopify break anything in Filemonk?
No. Filemonk does not read the tags back; it only writes them.
