Add a download button to the Thank you page
The Thank you page is where a customer's attention already is. A Download button there means they get their files straight away, rather than switching to their inbox and hoping the email arrived. It is the single best thing you can do to cut "where are my files" emails.
Set it up
- Click Filemonk in the left menu of your Shopify admin.
- Click Settings in the app's menu, then open the Thank You page tab.
- Under Download button, click Add button.
- Follow the prompts to add Filemonk's extension to your store.
The tab shows the status, so you can see whether the button is active on the Thank You page, the Order Status page, or both. Checking the status takes a moment after setup.
Customize what it says
- On the same tab, find Button settings and click Customize widget.
- Set the Thank you message shown above the button. The default reads "Thanks for your purchase! Click below to access your downloads now".
- Set the Button text. The default is Access Downloads.
- Save.
Both fields support Liquid variables, so you can include order details. Insert them from the variables list rather than typing them.
What customers will see
After checkout, your message and a button that takes them to their download page. Customers returning to the Order Status page later see it there too.
Check your setup
Place a test order and look at the Thank you page. The button should be there and lead to your files. Then reopen the order status page from the order confirmation to confirm it appears there as well. See Create a test order.
Troubleshooting
Not set up yet
The extension has not been added to your store, or was added without saving. Click Add button and complete the steps. See Set up Filemonk's store extensions.
The button appears but does nothing for some customers
Those orders have no files: either the products have nothing linked, or Filemonk did not process the order. See Troubleshoot a single order.
The button doesn't appear for some orders
An order status rule is holding delivery back, so the button is suppressed along with the email. See Send email and show the button based on order status.
The status still says it's checking
Verification takes a moment after adding the extension. Reload the page; if it persists, re-check the extension is saved in your store's settings.
A variable printed as text
It was typed by hand rather than inserted from the variables list, so it does not match.
FAQ
Does it replace the download email?
No, and you should keep both. The button serves customers now; the email is what they search for in three months.
What is the Order Status page?
The page customers return to from their order confirmation. The same button appears there, so it works as a permanent way back to their files.
Can I change the button colors?
The text and message are yours to set here. The styling follows your checkout's own design.
Does it work with guest checkout?
Yes. The button is tied to the order rather than to an account, unlike the customer account page. See Let customers download from the account page.
