Cancel your subscription
You can drop to a free plan or uninstall entirely. Both have consequences for customers who already bought from you, so it is worth knowing what changes before you do it.
Before you begin
- Downgrading removes paid features. The "Powered by Filemonk" line returns, custom email domains, PDF watermarking, download limits, and other gated settings stop applying.
- Uninstalling ends delivery. Download links stop working, and past customers lose access to their files.
- If customers are still downloading, give them notice, or send them their files another way first.
Downgrade to a free plan
- Click Filemonk in the left menu of your Shopify admin.
- Click Plans in the app's menu.
- Choose the free plan and confirm.
Filemonk asks why you are leaving; the reason is optional and helps the team.
Your files, products, and orders stay. What changes is the feature set and the limits.
Uninstall entirely
Uninstall Filemonk from your Shopify admin's app list. Before you do:
- Download your own copies of every file you sell, if you do not have them locally.
- Export your orders to CSV from the Orders page, so you keep the record of who bought what.
- Export your licence keys if you use them. See Manage licence keys.
- Tell customers who rely on ongoing access, and give them a way to get their files.
Troubleshooting
Customers lost access after I downgraded
Check which paid features you were relying on. If download limits or status rules were part of your setup, their behaviour changes on a free plan. See Filemonk pricing and plans.
I'm over the free plan's storage
Your files stay, but you cannot upload more until you are back under the limit. Delete what you no longer sell. See Manage your files.
I want to pause rather than cancel
There is no pause. The closest thing is turning off order processing so Filemonk stops acting on new orders while you keep your setup. See Turn on order processing.
I uninstalled and want to come back
Reinstall and check your setup carefully: files, product links, settings, and extensions all need verifying before you rely on it again.
FAQ
Am I billed after cancelling?
Billing runs through Shopify, so charges follow Shopify's own billing cycle. Check your Shopify invoice for the details of your final charge.
Do my files get deleted?
Downgrading keeps them. Uninstalling ends delivery, so keep your own copies of anything you sell.
Will customers be told?
No. They discover it when a download stops working, which is why notice matters if people still rely on their links.
Can I move to another app instead?
Yes. Set the other app up and confirm it delivers before removing Filemonk, so there is no window where customers can reach nothing. See Switch from another app to Filemonk for the same process in reverse.
