Usage alerts
Filemonk warns you as you approach your plan's limits, because passing one has consequences for customers as well as for you. The warnings appear in the app and, if you have them switched on, by email.
Where to look
- Click Filemonk in the left menu of your Shopify admin.
- Click Home in the app's menu and find the Usage card.
It shows your current plan, the reset date for the monthly limit, and usage for Upload, Orders, and Bandwidth.
What the warnings mean
| Warning | What has happened | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You may not be able to upload files soon | 80% of your storage is used | Delete files you no longer sell, or upgrade |
| Upgrade to upload more files | 100% of storage used. Uploads are blocked | Free space or upgrade. Existing customers are unaffected |
| Your customers may not be able to download files soon | 80% of your monthly limit used | Watch it, or upgrade before the ceiling |
| Upgrade to sell more digital products | 100% of the monthly limit used | Upgrade, or wait for the reset date |
| Downloads blocked due to fair usage policy violation | Usage well beyond normal for your plan | Contact support. This is not a limit you fix by upgrading alone |
The storage warnings affect you. The monthly limit warnings can affect customers, which is why they are worth acting on earlier.
Get told by email
Turn on usage notifications so you hear about this without opening the app, and set the address they go to. See Emails and reports Filemonk sends you.
Troubleshooting
I can't upload anything
Storage is full. Delete files you no longer sell, remembering that deleting a file removes it from orders that use it, or upgrade. See Manage your files.
Customers say downloads stopped working
Check the Usage card first. A breached monthly limit or a fair usage flag stops downloads store-wide, which looks exactly like a broken app.
Downloads blocked due to fair usage policy violation
Contact support. It usually means unusually heavy download traffic, whether from a viral product or from links being shared widely. Tightening download limits helps if it is the latter. See Limit the number of downloads per order.
My usage looks higher than my sales
Bandwidth counts every download, not every order. Customers re-downloading on several devices, or a shared link, multiply it. See See download history for an order.
I never saw a warning before hitting the limit
Usage notifications are off, or going to an address nobody reads. See Emails and reports Filemonk sends you.
FAQ
What happens at 100% of my monthly limit?
Depending on your plan, a per-order fee applies above the included number, or you wait for the reset date. The Plans page states which applies to yours. See Filemonk pricing and plans.
When does the monthly limit reset?
The Usage card names the reset date for your plan.
Does deleting files reduce storage immediately?
Yes. Storage is the combined size of your library, so removing files frees space straight away.
Do test orders count?
Yes, they are real orders and their downloads use bandwidth.
