Add a download button to the order confirmation email
Every customer gets Shopify's order confirmation. Adding a download button to it means their files are reachable from the email they already expect, which helps when the Filemonk email is delayed, filtered, or overlooked.
Before you begin
You will paste a snippet into your Shopify notification template, so you need access to Shopify's notification settings.
Set it up
- Click Filemonk in the left menu of your Shopify admin.
- Click Settings in the app's menu, then open the Email tab.
- Find the Shopify section.
- Enter the button text you want, for example Access downloads.
- Copy the code shown.
- In Shopify, open your Order confirmation notification template and paste the code where the button should appear.
- Save in Shopify.

What customers will see
Their usual Shopify order confirmation with your download button in it, leading to their download page. Customers who bought nothing digital do not see a button.
Check your setup
Place a test order and open the Shopify order confirmation email. The button should be there and lead to your files. Test with a physical-only order too, if you sell both, to confirm nothing odd appears. See Create a test order.
Troubleshooting
The button doesn't appear in the email
Check the code is in the Order confirmation template specifically, rather than another notification, and that you saved in Shopify. Send yourself a test from Shopify's notification editor to confirm.
It appears for orders with no digital products
Check you pasted the whole snippet. The code decides for itself whether to show a button, so a partial paste can break that logic.
The button leads to an empty page
The order has no files linked. That is a delivery problem rather than an email one. See Troubleshoot a single order.
It broke when I changed my email template
Editing or resetting the Shopify template can drop the snippet. Paste it again from the Filemonk settings.
FAQ
Does this replace Filemonk's download email?
No. Most stores run both, since two chances to find the link beats one.
Can I put it in other Shopify notifications?
The snippet is written for the order confirmation. Other templates carry different data, so it is not guaranteed elsewhere.
Do I need to re-paste after changing the button text?
Yes. The text is part of the code, so copy the updated snippet and replace the old one.
Does it work with order status rules?
The link goes to the customer's download page, which enforces your rules. If a rule blocks access, the page says so rather than serving files. See Send email and show the button based on order status.
